Latest Cabestan Winch Tourbillon Vertical watch and Cabestan Nostromo Watch

The latest version of Cabestan Winch Tourbillon Vertical watch shows a few differences from the previouis model that was released several years ago. And the biggest change is that it has the winch removed. I guess it is to smoothen the line of the case and enhance its appearance. The original winch, as a independent part, was fitted at the right side of the watch. You can use it to wind the watch. And another big change is that this version is resized to a reasonable size to make it fit into normal wrist. The resized project must be very tough given the complexity of the watch.

Inside the watch, there has two sapphire crystal glasses that allows you have a clear view of the vertically-placed tourbillon that also displays seconds, hours and minutes. And the power reserve indicator is located on the on the mainspring barrel. The watch applies a complication of fusee and chain to transfer the power.

I have to say, the new Cabestan Winch Tourbillon Vertical watch is so damn cool, though it takes some minutes to make clear its complex functions.

And the next watch offer from Cabestan is the Nostromo-name of a shion in the Alien movie. This new Cabestan comes with similar theme as the the Winch Tourbillon Vertical watch, but it is less expensive-just goes for 150,000 Swiss France. And you know the original model sells at 325,000 Swiss Francs. The Nostromo is fitted with just one sapphire crystal over the front and it applies rive-shaft system to transfer power from the mainspring to the movement. It replaces the winch with a pop-out crown that stays inside the watch when it is not used. And movement is further revealed by two sapphire crystal sides. What is more interesting is that, the watch has new image at night as the movement and the strap have some special areas coated with SuperLumiNova.

This tourbillon rotates once every minute against the deep black background under part of the cage-and that is where people find it is very mysterious and intriguing. In addition, not like the previous model whose tourbillon was set in a plate segment with cylindrical grinding, this tourbillon is presented on a ring with mirror-finished inside and thus parts of the escapement are reflected again. So this tourbillon present a visual feast for admires.

The power reserve indicator appears at the right side of the dial , providing the remained power of the barrel.

IWC Purtuguese Tourbillon Mystere Retrograde has two variants: 18k red gold case a silver-plated dial and platinum case with ruthenium-black dial. The former is limited to 500 pieces, while the latter is limited to 250 pieces.

New Longines Lindbergh Altantic Voyage Watch

Pictured bellow is the latest model from Lindergh Line. As a new model, though it has few new characters. It seems that Longines does not have enough imagination in mens watch designing. Take the dial for example. It is actually same as most Lindbergh themed watches offered by this brand. The dial itself dresses vintage style color, and has two subsidiary dials, blued steel hands, and the tachymeter scale at the out ring of the dial. Nothing special and Nothing new. Or if classic is about making no invention?

The thin case, sized at 47.5mm, is available in both stainless steel and 18k rose gold. And it features, like a pocket watch, a hinge at the rear that has been fitted with a sapphire crystal window to allow a view of the the ETA A07.231 automatic chronograph. You can open the rear by pushing the crown. And the watch is completed by a brown alligator leather strap.

Overall, I feel very boring when I look at this new Longines watch. And god knows that this brand used to offer much better Lindbergh themed Longines watches in the past. And to my knowledge, Longines even made a special watch for Charles who was spotted worn it on the trans-Atlantic flight. Also, Longines has done tons of work to convince people that every penny they pay for a Longines watch is worth.But sadly, it is not as successful as Omega who has been trying hard to make moon watch stand solid in people’s mind. Maybe things would be much better if it had put more time and effort in making their watches more interesting . Longines must have some changes, otherwise their mens watch market share may shrink faster than they imagine.

By the way, the watch case is too thin given that it is nearly 47.5mm which is the exace size of the Longines Lindbergh watch,for Charles Lindbergh.

Review of Franck Muller Aeternitas Mega 4 watch

The new year just begins and the watch world welcomes a watch that regards itself and is considered by many as another most complicated watch on this planet. It is the fourth member of the highly complex Franck Muller Aeternitas collection. Different people have different opinions on the looking of the watches in the collection.

Franck Fuller has been headached for the financial problem for quite a time but it is managing to finish this extremely complicated watch. By far, the brand has not disclosed how many pieces they will launch. But I am sure this watch will be exclusively limited considering its complexity. Anyway, the first model was already finished and presented to an American collector.

Beating inside the watch is a huge 36 complications. As the picture below shows the various functions of the watch, I am not going to list them here again. If you are interested, check them yourself.

Inside are a whopping 36 complications! I am not going to list them all here, but you can consult with the image in the gallery below for a spec sheet of the various functions that it has. And you know thie movement is composed of 1,483 parts. Incredible! It is said that it takes five years to design the complex movement. The dial of guilloche pattern displays 25 of the 36 complications. And part of the functions are a monopusher split-second chronograph, a 1000 year calendar, very accurate equation of time, complex sonnerie chiming functions, multiple timezones, moon phase indicator. Of course there are more. Busy though, the dial is very intriguing to look at.

Now, I have no ideals about the watch materials and the case size. But the case must be huge. And I think the biggest competitor to the Aeternitas Mega 4 watch is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Mechanica Grande Sonnerie watch that has 25 complications. The latter is , personally, much eye-pleasant and less expensive. The former asks for $2.7 million

Two Creative Aspects of Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Central chronograph

Last year, Cartier released not a few exceptional watch models to celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary. And the Cartier Rontonde De Cartier Central Chronograph is my favorite in their 2009 watch offerings.

I am drooling over the dial of innovative two-layer design. The upper dial that covers part of the hour hand and the minute hands display the chronograph. The arc-shape window serves as the 30-minutes, and the seconds hand travels around the black minute chapter ring. The lower dial tells the time with the brand’s signature blued hands and classic Roman numerals as hour makers.

This watch has another attractive features aside from the creative dial design: Beneath its 42mm rose gold case, there beats the Cartier’s in-house new movement: 9907 MC caliber movement. The brand claimed that the 9907 was completely designed, developed and assembled by their artisans. The movement is composed of 272 individual parts and sports a a column wheel with vertical coupling system for the chronograph. According the official saying, the chronograph function of the movement features less energy consumption than other chronograph watches.

The crown which extends out a little long from the case is one of the signature feature of Cartier watches. Like other models from this brand, the crown of this attractive Rontonde De Cartier is fixed by an iconic screw and has classic blue cop at the top.

As mentioned above, this watch is particular innovative in design. As far as I know, Cartier has filed for patents for the two-layer design of the dial and the location of the chronograph.

Franc Vila FVt28 Watches Review

The FVt28 is the new women’s watch collection by famous boutique watch maker Franc Vila. Two Jumping Hours Automatique Ivy Edition Watch in this collection comes with the brand’s iconic case design. And surprisingly, these watches do not have aggressive and masculine touch that the design is famous for. Instead, they look quite unique and technical. With complex and deep design, I think they will grow on women who love aesthetics and mechanics.

The oblong DieHard Extreme steel case comes with two versions: the “blue” and the “white”. The former is paved with 387 stones all over it and have blue mother-of-pearl dial and blue alligator leather strap, while the latter has 91 diamonds set on the bezel and features white mother-of-pearl dial and white alligator leather strap.

As beating inside the watch is the Fran Vila FV28 movement of jumping hour function, the hours is displayed digitally through a window at 12, and the main dial is used for the minutes.The blue version comes with blue looking orbs as minute markers, and the white version uses diamonds to tell minutes. There is a small subsidiary dial for the seconds.

The automatic rotor of the movement is done in gold and is nicely decorated. You can admire it through the sapphire crystal case back. The watch faces are also fitted with sapphire crystals. The watches are water resistant to 100 meters. And each version is limited to 88 pieces only.
